So much love for our #WCW Estelle Earth-Child Jooman. Isn't she just gorgeous?! 😍 Thank you for sending us your journey 💙💙💙 I started my lock journey in 2014. You see, I live in a community where dreadlocks isn't widely accepted for women. According to society, if you have a pretty blow out, you are beautiful. So, imagine my fear when I started my dreadlock journey. I wore a doek as much as I could to avoid questions like "are you Rasta now?"... "do you smoke weed now?"... blah! Honestly, who enjoys getting rejected by society?

As time passed, I fell deeply in love with my hair to the point where I could care less about the questions and the stares. In fact, it was at that stage where I started showing off my beautiful crown. Queens, you gotta know, my crown is pretty 😍. My hair locked super quickly because I had very curly hair and I nurtured it well. Every single lock is different in shape and length, they all grow at their own pace. I love and embrace each one of them. It reminds me of the different phases of my life, the trials and issues that I face daily yet I grow and come out GOLD on the other side.

My locks are a symbol of the tangles in my soul, my fire, my freedom and my self-expression. My locks aren't a political statement but a way of accepting our uniqueness. When my hair got loc'd, my mind became liberated 👑

Moms, we've 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 launched our satin bonnets for babies & toddlers! Satin protection is as important for your baby as it is for you, for those dry and knotty patches on their little heads.⠀

𝗧𝗜𝗣: To help with dryness, use a diluted leave in conditioner and grapeseed oil to seal the moisture into baby's hair. Do this during the day time (For safety reasons, place the bonnet underneath baby's head, open side down, for napping and night time sleeps, in their car seats or whenever chafing may occur). ⠀

"My journey started in the beginning of 2017. I just decided to stop using heat and take better care of my hair and if you take a look at the pictures, you'll see why. My hair was unbelievably damaged and no longer growing! At the time, I didn't know a thing about natural hair products, deep conditioning every week, using a satin pillowcase or a doek to protect your hair at night. I was completely clueless. I rolled my hair using rollers/curlers, did bantu knots as soon as they were removed and that’s how I wore my hair most of the time. I was also using my normal hair products and hadn’t switched to any of the natural ones. Stopping the use of heat drying alone, had already made a huge difference.

December that year, I did the Big Chop! It was only early in 2018 that I started familiarising myself with being a naturalista. I did the homework and found out what my hair type and porosity was, which products to use, etc. Then I heard of the @ctnaturally Support Group and Marley Grey Hair Care Accessories. I went and bought the natural hair products that suited my budget, got a satin doek (I now own a Marley Grey satin pillowcase) and began styling my hair in a “wash and go” more often. Using the LCO method, I try to deep condition every week (something that's really important, but don't do it often enough).

What I learned on my journey, is that being a natural takes a lot of patience! You have to be patient with your hair and treat it with loads of TLC. Your hair will thank you! Also, don't worry and bother yourself with what other people have to say about YOUR hair and all the negative comments. You keep on embracing your natural, God-given hair and flaunt it 💃"
